It was met with critical acclaim and the momentum was very strong for the band until tragedy struck on a fateful day in 1984 when drummer Nicholas Dingley aka “ Razzle” was killed in a car accident. This album was produced by the legendary Bob Ezrin. Things were happening for Hanoi Rocks in 1984 when Epic Records would release Two Steps From The Move. The Uzi Suicide catalog has been hard to find in the past years, especially the vinyl copies that were printed on coloured vinyl. Geffen Records re-released their first five albums in the late ’80s on the Guns N’ Roses‘ subsidiary label, Uzi Suicide. Hanoi Rocks‘ original albums were released on the small independent, Lick Records. To me growing up rock n’ roll was as much an image as it was about the music. Live the band are in their element, full of energy, and Michael Monroe is a great frontman. Move on a couple of studio albums (why not do the whole lot), and we get a fantastic live album recorded late in 1983 at the Marquee, London All Those Wasted Years. Musically a favourite but the band are critical due to the shoddy production and mixing, and the drummer’s heroin addiction didn’t help (he was fired soon after the recording).Īgain Andy McCoy took the lion’s share of song writing, and there’s a cover of Hoyt Axton’s ‘Lightning Bar Blues’.
****ġ982’s Oriental Beat continued in a similar vein, opening markets in Japan and the UK. All the songs, bar the cover of Carole King’s “Walking With My Angel”, were written by guitarist Andy McCoy. Whether the garage of MC5 or the swagger of the Rolling Stones, the chemistry here was right, there are some great songs although the production is far from great.
